- Trade and Agriculture were empire's main sources of revenue
- Barley and wheat were most commonly grown grains
- Produce was also distributed by officials to the imperial staff as wages
- Sold crops in cities and distributed them to state servants

- The Royal road was a highway system that was established by Darius
- Connected the farthest ends of the empires
- Improved communication and trade
- Long distance trade routes as well as sea routes
- Contributed to international trade
Economy

- Revolutionized the economy by placing it on a silver and gold coinage system
- Systematized taxation
